Why we created New Arrival Fridays at The Point
Share
When we opened The Point boutique in Watford City, North Dakota in January 2024, it was just me running the store alone. No employees, no startup loans, and no outside funding—just determination, creativity, and a whole lot of hard work. This is the story of how our small business grew, why change became necessary, and how New Arrival Fridays were created to better serve both our customers and our workflow.
Starting a Boutique With No Funding
Opening a retail store without startup capital meant being intentional from day one. For the first seven months, I worked entirely alone, keeping expenses low and reinvesting everything back into the business.
To make this possible, we began creating custom charm necklaces from April through December of 2024. This allowed the boutique to grow organically without the pressure of payroll or loans.
In the early days, one box of inventory a day was all the business could afford—and all one person could manage.
Growing Demand & Daily New Arrivals
As The Point gained momentum, we leaned into daily new arrivals. Customers loved the excitement of never knowing what they’d find next, and many were still discovering the store for the first time months into the year.
But behind the scenes, that one box quickly turned into five or more deliveries a day—while I was still wearing every hat: buyer, merchandiser, marketer, cashier, and receiver.
Hiring Employees & Scaling the Business
Hiring our first employees felt like coming up for air after holding it underwater for months. For the first time, the business had grown beyond what one person could physically manage alone.
With help, I was able to step into the true role of a business owner—focusing on:
- Buying & budgeting
- Marketing & merchandising
- Long-term growth planning
The daily workload became manageable, efficient, and sustainable.
A New Challenge: Working Solo Again
Fast forward to one year into our brick-and-mortar journey. The Point now receives 10–20 new arrivals every week.
January came around, and once again, I found myself working alone—this time with a business already scaled beyond solo capacity. Between shipment, customers, and post-holiday demands, the days moved fast and the pressure was real.
That’s when I knew something needed to change.
Why We Introduced New Arrival Fridays
To create structure and sustainability, I reworked how shipment is processed:
• Inventory is received and processed throughout the week
• All new arrivals are merchandised Thursday after closing
• New items drop Fridays at 11am CST, both in-store and online
✨ New Arrival Fridays were born.
This system removes daily pressure, creates consistency, and allows the business to function smoothly—whether I’m working alone or with a team.
How New Arrival Fridays Benefit Our Customers
This change wasn’t just for workflow—it was made with our customers in mind.
With weekly drops:
- Everyone gets a fair chance at sizes
- Customers know exactly when to shop
- No more missing out because you weren’t watching stories all day
Shopping on Fridays and Saturdays now feels fresh, intentional, and exciting—like the store was stocked just for you.
What Do You Think?
Have you shopped a New Arrival Friday yet?
How has your experience been?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Thank you for supporting this small business with a big heart. It’s Friday as I write this, which means I’m getting the store ready for 11am—and I can’t wait to see what you find.
